If you have a house with walls that have distress or lots of water damage I cautiously recommend the Ralph Lauren Suede paint available at Home Depot. I say caution because though its a miracle cure for taking your eye away from wall damage, its a bear to apply.

The paint has texture in it. It results in a wall which looks like suede. The color choices are nice too. Because of the texture the light does not hit it flush and therefore any damage you might have on a plaster wall suddenly all goes away. I had a lot of damage above my fireplace from water and any normal latex paint would never have covered up the plaster and clean up. This stuff does. Even up close its hard to see. And its a really nice looking paint.

BUTTTTTT. its a demon to apply. First its about 50% more expensive than other good paint. Ralph needs his cut. Next you need to use certain kinds of rollers and brushes. Third, the technique they tell you to use results in a pattern that almost gave me a seizure. It really works like suede. So when you paint or roll in a direction you create a nap. According to their instructions you end up with a wall of choas criss cross pattern that was very anxious provoking. So I had to ever so carefully roll each wall to create no lines. One solid pattern. Not easy. It took me 3 times.

With all that, it is worth it. Is does miraculously hide all the damage to my lath and plaster wall and itslef is a pretty paint.

the before and after pics are marvelous.  my house was entirely kiwi green in every room.  it amazes me when people on those real estate shows don't buy a house because they hate the room color.  that's fine- leave the diamonds in the rough to people like us!!
