These are shelves I put in my living room. The idea was to create something functional for the objects I like: books, cds, glass, little mementos from travels as well as create something visual compelling for a large blank wall in my living room. Its a large room and the best in the house. Two of the sides are dominated by windows and the other wall is a pathway so this wall seems to be a potential focal point.

I designed the shelves myself. I wanted something clean and simple. But I knew that since these were so clean and simple that it would have to be done very well or my eye would catch every mistake so I brought in a pro, Denny Deveny. He was great. He built all the shelves and hung them. Not easy to do since the wall is lath and plaster. I made the steel brackets but the wall has a small amout of give it in making the mounting tricky. He did is spot on and even came back to fine tune it. 

Another fine quality of Denny's is that I wanted to use a wood that was eco friendly. He recommended Lyptus. I hadnt heard of it. According to Denny its a fast growing hybrid hardward. In this case taken from a managed forest. So, hopefully nobody's looking at a stump because of me. 

I like the shelves a great deal. I think they finish off the room nicely. Now I have to find the perfect picture to go between them.
