I Got a List

I want bonAbode to work in both directions. Earlier I posted a list of resources I like with the idea that maybe someone will find it helpful. Now I want to ask for help. I've made of list of things that I dont know how to do or find. In the near future this is the kind of thing you all will be able to do in our forums section as well as the soon to be added "Help" project category.

Here's my list. If you've a suggestion fire it over.

  1. Round Wood Electrical Outlet Plates. If these are already made. Dyn-O-mite. If not, then I need to find someone to make them. Someone with a CNC machine could do it easily. The round is the easy part. That outlet shape in the middle is harder. And if given the choice, I'd rather that they were made of better wood. Is there a safety issue to this?
  2. A method to remove many layers of paint on metal heating grates. They are slated with many tight slots. I've taken them to two places in town and they laughed at me because they knew I was screwed and they weren't going to do it. I've soaked them in boiling water, sprayed every kind of paint remover but still havent gotten them clean. A tool which acts like a very sharp small knife would be handy.
  3. Basement Window Grates. For this I'm looking for designs and patterns. Here I'm just fishing for ideas. My plan is to create a design for my basement windows and take them to a local steel laser cutter. Have them cut out and powder coated. This I can do. What I'm having trouble finding is the design. I think what I want is something Spanish or perhaps a repeating pattern like you see in Islamic Mosque tile pattern. I went to our local giant book store and came up snake eyes. Same with the internet. Must be a gob load of things to look at. Where?
  4. A Fireplace Screen. Again, I'm looking for a design idea. I like the idea of it including glass because that would be pretty. I also am not much of a fan of country looking forge work. Something contemporary would be good or something decorative. Anybody know of a source for European fireplace screens.
  5. Indoor Grass. This one is a little nutty. I really like the smell of grass. I've had this idea for a while. I'd like to create a ceramic trough that runs along two walls in my living room beneath the windows. The grass would grow in the trough. About 10 inches high, about 6-8 inches deep. I see this being done on a smaller scale in restaraunts and public spaces.
  6. Wooden Floor lamps that are sculptural. I want to add more wood to my house in the form of accessories. Floor lamps are pretty boring. Anybody know where I can find some that are sculpture like in their shape. A light and an object. Here is one I like from Chista.

  7. A good porch paint. I've painted my porch twice. Both times with paint that was suppose to be perfect. Both times its peeled. Its untreated concrete.
  8. Ceramic Bird Feeder. This year I treated myself to a new bird feeder with my returned tax money. I love it and so do the birds. I bought it from Canoe here in Portland but its a popular item you can find pretty easy. This image is from Designs Within Reach. I would like to have more. Maybe more hand made. Any ceramic people out there make bird feeders?

  9. Rugs. Who makes pretty contemporary rugs?
  10. A good concrete block person. I need a long wall put up. It will be helpful if they live in Portland, OR.
